Mr. Boehme 7-8 grades Boys Fishing Trip 8th grade boys fishing trip - October 3
Aaron’s Great Fishing Adventure I got to Mr. Boehme’s house at 6:50 a.m. on Saturday morning. Then we left for the dock. There were a lot of people there. We got the boat in
the water and started to go out to the ocean. We had to slow down to go
by John’s Pass. Then we then we took half an hour to get to the fish;
when we got there we started trolling. We were trolling for less than five minutes when the first fish bit. I got the pole and started reeling it in. The fish was a Bonito. Next Joey caught a Kingfish. After him Krishna caught a Gag Grouper. Then Nick got a Gag also. I also caught a Gag. Joey caught the last fish while trolling, it was a Spanish mackerel. After all that we started snapper fishing. At first I didn’t catch anything, but then I started getting better luck. I caught a couple of small groupers. Unfortunately we couldn’t keep any of them because they were too small. We must have caught fifty small groupers and had to throw all of them back. At first only Krishna was catching the Snappers but when Nick and I went on the bow to fish we started to finally catch Snappers and Nick even caught a Triggerfish. I caught about eight or nine Snappers and overall we caught about thirty-five of them. After that we tried trolling again but didn’t catch anything so we went back to the dock. There were still a lot of people there, and we had a hard time getting our boat out. At Mr. Boehme’s house we weighed the fish and this is the total of it: one ten lb. Kingfish caught by Joey, three Gag Groupers, five lb., seven lb. and eight lb., one three-and-a-half lb. Bonito that I caught, and one three lb. Spanish Mackerel. That was my day fishing with Mr. Boehme.
Krishna- Beyond sight of Land On Saturday we went fishing, all six of us, Mr. Boehme, Mr. Case, Nick, Aaron, Joey and me. First I arrived at Mr. Boehme’s house at 6:55 a.m. Everyone was there. I gave Mr. Case my cooler and he emptied out the ice and my drinks in one cooler. I gave him my bag of snacks and he put it in the boat. We got in Mr. B’s truck and drove to the Veterans Park. When we got there, there were so many people. There were even little tiny fish on the parking lot ground. Mr.
Boehme picked a slot, and he unloaded his boat into the water. First
they started the engine and then we got on. We went out on the water
driving slow for a bit. Then Mr. B told us to hang on, and we went
fast. I had to hold on to the chair, and my heart was beating fast.
The most part my heart was beating was when we curved. As we curved
left, my body leaned right. As we curved right, my body leaned left.
Then we slowed down and my body hurled up. We were at John’s Pass and
we put on some sun screen. When we passed through the bridge, we speeded yet again. We were passing through the ocean as the waves passed us. When I looked back the first time, the buildings were not that far away. When I looked back the second time, the buildings were small. When I looked back the third time, there were no buildings! As some part of time the ocean looked fake, they were so perfect they looked fake! Then they looked normal again. It was getting sunny, and for some reason I saw a diving helmet in the middle of the ocean. It was very weird. Then we finally got to our spot, 60 feet of water, and we slowed down. Mr. B. and Mr. Case set up the rods for fishing grouper and kingfish. They put the lures in the water and we took turns catching the fish. When the rod started screaming, Joey caught a kingfish on his first turn. Then Aaron caught a small bonito. The Nick lost his first fish. It took a long time for my turn to come. Then finally the fourth rod started screaming and I took it. I struggled, I put the rod between my legs, and I finally caught the 8 lb. gag grouper at 9:22 a.m. Mr. Boehme said it was worth $70. I was proud. Then Aaron caught a 23 inch gag grouper. Nick caught a 7 lb. gag grouper. Joey caught a Spanish mackerel. Then we finally got to the snappers and groupers. We each got a rod and we sent the lure with squid bait into the water. When the fish bit, we reeled it in as fast as we could. We caught many groupers which we threw back. Nick was making all sorts of weird noises, which was pretty funny. There was a time when I was nauseated, and I felt better by eating food. Finally Mr. B. said it was time to go, and at that time I was already done catching about 10 grey snappers. Then we speeded back. While it happened, I was very sleepy. What was really funny was when I saw a bird sitting on the water, and then three or four, and then about seven. We passed through the bridge and finally got back to the park. We drove back to Mr. Boehme’s house. When we got back, Mr. Case cleaned the boat. Then it was picture time, so each of us had a picture with our fish. Then Mr. B cut the meat out of the snappers. I called my Mom to pick me up. She came and I finally went home.
My Fishing Experience by Nick We left from the house for the dock at 7. When we arrived at the veteran’s boat launch we got out, and put the boat in the water. We went out of John’s Pass and it took us an hour or so to get out to 17 miles out.
Then we trolled for fish Aaron got the first bite, it was a small tuna.
Then I got the next one, but there was nothing on, so I was angry. I
waited my turn for the next bite. While I was waiting, Joey got a 10
pound kingfish, and then Krishna was up he started reeling it in and we
saw it was a nice gag grouper. Then we got in the boat and put it in the
cooler. I waited for the next bite so when it happened I got up and
reeled it in. It was another gag grouper, and it was big. Then Aaron
was up and he also got a gag grouper. It was 23 inches so we kept it.
The minimum size is 22 inches Joey was next hit, and he got a nice
Spanish mackerel
After that we moved to a different spot and fished for grouper and snapper. I used a spinning rod while the other people where using thumb reels. Right as we came I cast it down and I immediately got a red grouper. It was nice, but we can’t keep these fish, because they aren’t big enough. They have to be 20 inches to keep. I kept fishing also, I moved to the bow of the boat and started to fish on the bow. I was getting much bigger grouper, and I was getting snapper, and they were fighters, but not as much as the trigger fish I caught. I am not sure how I caught the trigger fish because they are usually caught at coral reefs, so I was so happy that I caught one. So while I was fishing, we saw some groups of kingfish and bonito. I tried to cast it there, but I didn’t get any thing. I was using squid and it was working well, but I switched from that to shrimp to minnows. None of those worked as well as the squid so I switched back, and I was catching fish again. While we were at that spot we saw a lot of jelly fish and they were huge. Next we were fishing still for snapper and I caught like 7 of those, but that’s nothing compared to the grouper I caught. I caught like 20 groupers. So after we were done we left that spot and went trolling again. We put the lines out and all we got was seaweed. We quit fishing and left for the dock. As we got there we hooked the boat up to Mr. Boehme’s truck, and then we headed to the gas station. Back at Mr. Boehme’s, we took all of our stuff out of the boat, and then we took pictures of the fish we got. Next we put all the gear and stuff back in Mr. Boehme’s garage. We took all of the snappers out, and he filleted them. Then we took the groupers out and he filleted them also. After that he took the kingfish and filleted it. The weight of Krishna’s and my grouper were about the same and Aaron’s bonito was only 3 pounds. My trigger fish was the same weight as the bonito. Joey’s fish was 10 pounds, Krishna and my grouper were 8 pounds, and Aaron’s grouper was 5 pounds. After we got the fillets, we left. The next day my dad cooked up some of the grouper and the trigger fish together on the grill. We ate it, all of my family had some, and they said it was good. The trigger fish tasted like chicken, but it was as good as the grouper. My grandpa heard about me fishing and he was impressed. So were my cousins who are also big fishing fans.
Joey, A day at Sea
Saturday I woke up at 5:30a.m. and went to pick Nick up. We got there before the other two guys.
When we all got there we hopped in Mr.
B’s truck and left to go fishing. It was a nice day to go fishing. We
went out far, to about 60ft. deep waters. We started trolling when we
got around 15miles. Aaron was the first to catch a fish it was a bonito.
Then I caught a king fish it was the biggest fish I ever caught. Then
Nick, Krishna, and Aaron caught gag groupers 7, 8 and 5lbs. My king was
10 lbs. We did that for some time more, then we stopped to fish for grey snapper. We did that for the rest of the time we were out there. I also caught a Spanish mackerel. We caught red grouper they were all smaller than the limit so we put them back. It was my first time using squid it was good, better then shrimp. There was a lot of other boats out there. On the way back in I was on the bow of the boat. It was fun to do that. Right before we got to John’s Pass, a big boat went in front of us and made really big waves. Mr. Case and I hit heads when that happened. We also saw many jellyfish when we were out there. One Dolphin jumped really high out of the water. That was cool to see it happen. When we got back Mr. B cut the fish and took pictures of us with our fish that we caught. We all took home some fish. It was a good time we had there. I wish to do it again When my mom got there, she was happy to see what I caught. I put it in a box and went home. When I got home I sorted it all out. I gave some of the fish to Russ, my neighbor. He was happy to get some fish. I brought home a lot of snapper and two fillets of grouper, some of my mackerel and some of my kingfish. We will eat some on Wednesday, I’m sure it will be good. Then I took a shower but I still smelled. We went to church, then my mom dropped me off at my dads. I watched TV until 1:50 and then I went to bed so I had a long day Saturday. I was told many ways how to cook it so we will try it. Most of it will be good.
